Heston returns to Little Chef

Heston Blumenthal will make a return to roadside cafe chain Little Chef after being hired to revamp several of its sites as part of a £20 million project.

Blumenthal will develop a new menu based on the one he created in the Channel 4 documentary, Big Chef takes on Little Chef, that was broadcast in 2008, the Sunday Times reports.

In the programme the Fat Duck owner trialled an innovative menu at Little Chef's Popham restaurant that featured braised ox cheeks, interesting takes on classic British dishes (like 'tag bol') and a revamp of the Olympic breakfast, Little Chef's flagship product.

Blumenthal has been signed up as an advisor to R Capital, the investor that saved Little Chef from ruin in 2007, the Sunday Times says.

R Capital intends to invest £20 million to revitalise 20 Little Chef venues over the next year. But it will eventually be spread out to encompass all 160 Little Chef restaurants.

Alongside menus created by the Michelin-starred Blumenthal, customers will also be able to buy takeaway deli sandwiches.ADNFCR-2719-ID-800503506-ADNFCR
